FAQ
What the heck is Radio Nowhere?
Radio Nowhere is an alternative pop rock band from Oakland, California, in the United States. The band uses guitars, drums, pianos, organs, singing and arcane electrical noisemakers to create catchy pop rock songs like you might hear on the radio…if the radio wasn’t so painfully lame. What kind of website is this? What’s going on here?
This website is the online headquarters for Radio Nowhere, and it’s the best place to hear the band’s music, learn more about the songs and the musicians, and keep up on new music, live shows, and general news relating to pop rock online.
This website is what the kids these days are calling a blog, which means it’s built around a running stream of frequent posts or entries, displayed in reverse chronological order. This is what you see in the big left-hand column on the front page of the site, here.
Crucially, blogs are also designed to encourage interaction between blog creators and readers. You can click on the “comments” link below a post to start a dialogue with the band. Click here for more info about blogs.
How do I listen to the music?
There are a couple of different ways to listen to music on this site.
- Home Page: in the player widget in the sidebar to the right, click on the black arrow button in the lower middle of the player to hear the song
- Music Page: click on the big gray arrow button to the right of each album cover (use the smaller gray arrow buttons farther to the right to pick different songs to listen to)
How do I download the music for free?
Fast & Easy. There are a couple of different ways:
- Home Page: in the player widget in the sidebar to the right, click on the sizeable black “download” box towards the right-center of the widget.
- Music Page: click on the blue “Download” link just under the big gray arrow button to the right of each album cover. This will take you to the excellent external store at bandcamp, where you can download in a number of different formats.
You may be aware that this whole “download music for free” thing is somewhat controversial: check out the licensing page for my take on that.
How do I buy the music?
How old-fashioned of you! I’m charmed! Radio Nowhere music is available in the alternative pop rock section, or the pop rock songs section, at any number of online stores. Here are the best ones, in order of their usefulness to…me (naturally).
- Bandcamp: these guys pass on 100% of the customer’s payment to the artist, so that’s nice. Plus, fans can download high-bitrate mp3s, Apple Lossless files, FLAC files, and Ogg – what’s not to like?
- Amie Street: cool store for music fans, with an interesting pricing model. Songs start off free, and then rise in price as more people buy the music.
- Amazon: Amazon is my favorite of the “normal” music stores for pop rock online.
- iTunes: If people love them some iTunes, who am I to say that’s wrong?
